Over the past several weeks, residents across Connecticut have expressed alarm about the increased presence and tactics of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in our cities, as well as the impact of the recent executive orders, including allowing ICE agents to make arrests at schools, churches, and hospitals.

Regardless of immigration status, we all have guaranteed rights under the Constitution. What you can do today: learn more about immigrants' rights and share these important resources with your community.

On January 28, 2025, Governor Ned Lamont and Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker also announced "that the Connecticut State Department of Education has issued a guidance document to every K-12 public school district in Connecticut in response to questions regarding the impact that recent changes in policy guidance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security pertaining to immigration enforcement activities may have on school operations, student privacy, and the safeguarding of students while in school."

ACLU Connecticut has also created a comprehensive Immigrants' Rights & Resource Guide to empower everyone with knowledge about immigrant's constitutional rights and how to exercise them. The guide is updated on a regular basis and includes:

  • Know Your Rights guidance
  • Know Your Rights materials in 15 languages here.
