The responsibility for creating district maps at the federal and state levels has now moved to the Redistricting Commission. The Commission is a nine-member body charged with creating and adopting a final redistricting plan. The Commission must adopt a plan by November 30; plan acceptance requires a simple majority, meaning that five members of the Commission must agree to the plans they create.

Members of the Redistricting Commission

Senate Minority Leader Kevin Kelly, 21st Senatorial District; Speaker of the House Matt Ritter, 1st Assembly District Senate; President Pro Tempore Martin Looney, 11th Senatorial District; House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora, 86th Assembly District; Senator Majority Leader Bob Duff, 25th Senatorial District House; Majority Leader Jason Rojas, 9th Assembly District; Senator Paul Formica, 20th Senatorial District; Representative Jason Perillo, 113th Assembly District; and Kevin P. Johnston, former legislator, state auditor, and appointed member of the 2011 Reapportionment Commission.

LWVCT takes Action

On Wednesday, October 20th, LWVCT President Laura Smits wrote to the Reapportionment Commission urging that the Commission approach their task by centering the residents of Connecticut, not the current legislators. She called on the Commission to be transparent in their decision-making, engage the public in good faith with communication, and improve outreach to Connecticut residents.
