Press Briefing with Secretary of the State Denise Merrill: Connecticut Voters Support Early In-Person Voting and No-Excuse Absentee Ballot Access

 
On Thursday, January 28, 2021, LWVCT President Carol Reimers spoke at the “Modernizing Connecticut Elections” Press Briefing with Secretary of the State, Denise Merrill, along with John Erlingheuser, Advocacy Director of the nearly 600,000 member AARP-CT, and others.
 
Secretary Merrill introduced the results of the poll commissioned by Secure Democracy on commonsense policies to safeguard elections and preserve the right to vote based on responses of 808 registered Connecticut voters between January 11 and 17, 2021.
 
Highlights of the polling results:
 
  • Respondents showed bipartisan support of Early In-Person Voting with 79% in favor overall (69% of registered Republicans, 79% of registered Unaffiliated voters, and 86% of registered Democrats).
  • Respondents showed bipartisan support of No-Excuse Absentee Ballots with 70% in favor overall (48% of registered Republicans, 75% of registered Unaffiliated voters, and 89% of registered Democrats).
