Join CWCSEO's CivicsCon, Oct 8–10 (in-person & virtual), exploring Voice, Voting & Volunteerism to strengthen CT's civic health.

The Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity (CWCSWEO) Civics Conference (CivicsCon) on October 8th–10th is a 3-day event that will feature one full day in person (Thursday) and two half days virtual (Friday evening and Saturday morning). Our goal is to ensure access to the event for as many residents as possible.

CivicsCon is a continuation of a long commitment to civic engagement that the Commission has been building alongside Connecticut residents and communities. Throughout 2025, we hosted civic sitdowns, produced a landmark two-day event Commemorating America250 and Exploring the American Dream, and launched the CWCSEO Policy Innovation and Civic Health Podcast — all in service of strengthening Connecticut's civic health.

At the heart of CivicsCon are three pillars our country depends on: Voice, Voting, and Volunteerism (Service). Through interactive panels, activities, and community discussion, CivicsCon will create space for conversations that strengthen communities, bridge divides, and build the civic muscle our state needs. Whether you are a longtime advocate, student or someone just beginning to find your place in civic life, there is a place for you here.

Keynote Speaker - October 8th

Fredrick J. Riley

Frederick J. Riley is passionate about the development of communities and people. He is the Executive Director of Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute. He spent nearly 2 decades working to ensure a positive life trajectory for youth with a focus on urban, underserved communities and poverty. He has served as Chief Advancement Officer for the Cincinnati YMCA, National Director of Urban Development for YMCA of the USA and has had held similar positions with YMCA of Southwest Illinois, Metro Atlanta YMCA, and, nationally, with the National Conference of Black Mayors.

We are honored for Mr. Riley to share his story, wisdom and civic insights we are certain will inspire attendees to dream bigger dreams for the civic future of Connecticut. Voice, Voting, Volunteerism - all are part of the civic health of our neighborhoods and state.
