Join the Ct Old State house for a panel of Black educators from all school levels as they discuss Black History Month and its role in Connecticut classrooms. The panelists will answer questions generated by the Black Student Union at Capital Community College (CCC) focused on why we celebrate Black History Month. Should Black history continue to have its own dedicated month? How can we improve the teaching of Black history in schools?
Dr. G. Duncan Harris, CEO of Capital Community College, will moderate. Panelists include Prof. Marcus Lawson of CCC, Shakira Perez of Hartford’s Classical Magnet School, and Waltrina Kirkland-Mullins of New Haven Public Schools.
The panel will be followed by an hour-long round-table discussion where participants can talk about some of the ideas and issues raised during the program. The table discussion will consist of 4 rounds of 15 minutes each. Refreshments will be provided at the end.
This program is a partnership with Capital Community College and the Black Student Union at Capital.
