Women and the American Economy

What Does the Economy Have to Do with You? More Than You Think!

Join us as we continue our Distinguished Professor Lecture Series featuring UConn professors engaging with the Greenwich community.

In Women and the Economy, Dr. Natalia Smirnova, Associate Professor of Economics at UConn Stamford, will explore how economic forces shape our everyday decisions. From inflation and employment to the gender wage gap, savings, and retirement, she will examine the issues that directly affect how women earn, spend, and plan.

Have you ever wondered how economic trends influence your purchasing decisions—or why women often face different financial outcomes over a lifetime? This lecture connects economic theory to real-life choices in a clear, accessible, and thought-provoking way.

Learn from a nationally recognized educator and join the conversation with your fellow attendees—no exams required.

Dr. Smirnova earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Connecticut and has received numerous state and national teaching awards. Her career spans government, academia, and the nonprofit sector, and her research includes economic transitions in Russia and new approaches to economic education.
