LWV SECT: 2025 High School Civic Engagement Award Challenge

Calling All New Voters!  Your voice is vital to US  democracy! 

The League of Women Voters of Southeastern Connecticut (LWVSECT) announces the opening of submissions for one award of up to $1,000 to students in the region.  Deadline is April 1, 2025 at midnight. The award will be conferred at the LWVSECT's annual meeting and dinner on June 5, 2025 (location TBA).

Please submit entries according to the following guidelines:

Create three (3), one (1) minute videos in vertical format (portrait).  Each individual video should cover one of the following themes:

  1. History of voting rights in the US. Be sure to include historical challenges to these rights. (one, one- minute video).
  2. Why vote: what issues are important to you and your peers?   You may choose one issue (or more) but explain how that issue can be addressed through voting.  (One, one-minute video).
  3. How to vote in CT: review laws (especially recent changes) and opportunities. (One, one-minute video).

The competition is open to all high school students in Southeastern Connecticut.   Be careful to ensure that the work submitted is your original work and your work only. You can credit sources.  You may include the voices of your peers, but they must be authentic, not AI generated.  With the award, the LWVSECT wishes to address its mission to serve audiences it may not be currently reaching. We see our youth as the most direct route to serving youth. Any and all submissions may be used on the LWVSECT website and newsletter.  All entries will be acknowledged.
