Let the People Decide
Voting Rights Film Virtual Discussion

Let the People Decide explores the history of the struggle of voting rights from the 1960s through the present day. The film features Rev. Dr. William Barber II, Bob Moses, Rep. John Lewis, Julian Bond, Dick Gregory, Harry Belafonte and four generations of activists, scholars, journalists and figures from all sides of the political spectrum.

Please register for access to the film and then join us for a panel discussion featuring the film maker and voting rights experts.

Panelists:
Gavin Guerra: Mr. Guerra wrote, produced and directed Let the People Decide. When the Supreme Court struck down a major provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013, legislatures across the country once again implemented barriers to voting, such as strict ID requirements. Mr. Guerra decided to make the film a "then and now" production and compare the movement for voting rights in the 1960s to the effort to break down voter discrimination laws present today.

Bob Zellner: Mr. Zellner endured beatings and jailings in the 1960s South for participating in demonstrations and leading voter registration drives. He later taught the history of the civil rights movement at Long Island University and continues to write and speak on the topic. In 2013 he was arrested for protesting North Carolina's voter ID law.

Emma Goings: Membership & Life Membership Chair, Stamford NAACP.

Moderated by Kristine Goldhawk: Kristine Goldhawk is a member of the League of Women Voters of Stamford Steering Committee. The League of Women Voters is a national, non-partisan organization dedicated to voter education and advocacy. In addition to her work with the League, Ms. Goldhawk teaches Civics, American Law and AP Comparative Government at New Canaan High School.

Registration required.
Film access information and Zoom meeting details will be provided to all registrants in advance of the program.

Co-sponsored by WOW (Women on Watch), League of Women Voters of Stamford, the Mayor's Multicultural Cultural Council of Stamford and the Stamford NAACP.
