The AITE Debate Team and the Yale Debate Association are pleased to present an evening of Collegiate debate featuring women from the Yale parliamentary debate team at the Rippowam School auditorium in Stamford, CT on January 22 from 7 to 9 PM.
The Academy of Information Technology and Engineering is a Stamford Public Schools interdistrict magnet high school with a storied debate team that competes in the Connecticut Debate Association as well as multiple nationwide tournaments held annually in the Northeast.
The event is being held to promote girls’ participation in high school debate activities and competitions.
According to a recent study published on SSRN, female high school students are 30.34% more likely to quit competitive debate than their male counterparts. Last year the AITE Debate Team screened a movie about girls in debate called Girl Talk. This year the team is planning to stage a debate exhibition between women from the Yale parliamentary debate team.
Zoe Chance, Yale Professor and best-selling author of Influence is Your Superpower: The Science of Winning Hearts, Sparking Change, and Making Good Things Happen will share her perspectives on persuasion, public speaking, and empowerment.
Mayor of Stamford Caroline Simmons will also attend and share some remarks with the audience about the importance of girls being encouraged to participate in activities that develop their public speaking skills.
