Your Vote - A Forum with Secretary of State, Denise Merrill
The public is invited to attend a forum to learn about current and proposed election law legislation that covers rules and regulations for voting and campaign finance. Given the recent tampering with our country's voting systems, it is time to also establish security measures necessary to protect our votes and personal information in various databases.
CT Secretary of the State Denise Merrill will speak about her actions to make Ct. elections more convenient, with "early voting" and "no excuse" absentee ballots, and more secure with safe-guards for voter information. She introduced House Bill 5173: An Act Concerning The Privacy Of Connecticut Voters, currently under consideration by the state legislature. As an influential member and past president of the National Assoc. of Secretaries of State, Secretary Merrill will also address national and other states' efforts to protect our voting systems.
Connecticut's campaign finance law, the "Citizens' Election Program" (CEP), will be explained by Elona Vaisnys, who oversees"CEProud," a League of Women Voters of CT project formed specifically to help educate the public about the CEP.
The League of Women Voters of the East Shore and CT Shoreline Indivisible will co-host this open discussion on Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m. in Branford's Fire Dept. HQ, at 45 No. Main St. Attendees are invited to bring questions for the speakers.
