Join the Redding LWV and the Mark Twain Library for the next part of their award-winning Conversations: Truth, Myth & Democracy series featuring Pulitzer Prize-Winning author David Zucchino and Professor Daniel Barrett. Zucchino's book, Wilmington's Lie, weaves a gripping and compelling narrative that uncovers a violent and largely forgotten chapter of American history: The 1898 riot and coup in Wilmington, North Carolina. Barrett and Zucchino will discuss ways dominant groups often prevail over historical narratives, and the importance of delving into primary sources to uncover truths about events that have been misconstrued, or entirely forgotten. This is a virtual webinar hosted via Zoom. Registration is required.

William A. O’Neill State Armory

The CT gubernatorial inauguration ceremony will take place in Hartford and is open to the public (tickets not required). Gov. Ned Lamont, Attorney General William Tong, Secretary of the State-elect Stephanie Thomas, Treasurer-elect Erick Russell and Comptroller-elect Sean Scanlon – will receive the oath of office and Lamont will deliver remarks about his vision for Connecticut. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at noon.

Join the League of Women Voters for a rally in front of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will hear the case of Moore v. Harper that will determine if State Legislatures have the power and authority to run federal elections in their states, without any checks and balances, that could prevent fairer voting maps, fairer elections, and the protection of voter rights. This cases’ implication will impact voters in North Carolina and across the country. 

Training will be offered the evening of December 6th at a TBD location in the Dupont Circle area of DC. We will be gathering at a location near the Supreme Court at 8:30am on December 7th. Registrants will receive the location in their confirmation email.
