LWVAC is launching a "What You Can Do" (WYCD) campaign where we share a series of action plans. With so much happening on the national stage, these action plans are intended to encourage you to respond to the daily breach of the rule of law and the separation of powers. Read more about this campaign here. Skip to the current action by clicking here.

CURRENT TOPIC: U.S. Treasury Department's breach of personal identifiable information

We do not let just anyone have our phone number, address and especially our social security number. However, a group of non-government employees without the appropriate security clearances gained control of the Treasury Departments' computers. Personal data, including social security numbers for millions of Americans may have been exposed. A federal judge has blocked further access. But there are lots of questions.

CURRENT ACTION: Call your legislators and ask for answers

Some suggestions follow. We want our messages to be laser focused, please feel free to use some or all these questions or any others of your own choosing. Choose a couple questions for today, use others in the next couple days.

Senator Rick Scott: (202) 224-5274
Senator Ashley Moody: (202) 224-3041
Representative Kat Cammack: (202) 225-5744

Our goal is to let our elected representatives know we are outraged and determined:
  1. What personal data did Musk and DOGE access from the Treasury Departments computers?
  2. Did any of my personal information leave the premises on devices or thumb drives?
  3. What use has been made of that information?
  4. Who has control of it?
  5. Where else is it being stored and who else can access it?
  6. What are you doing to find out the answers to these questions?
  7. When will you let the public know what has happened to their personal information?
  8. What are you doing to prevent further illegal access to Americans’ person data?
  9. What plan do you have for addressing the potential issues for individual citizens because of the misuse of their personal data?
  10. What are you doing to protect me and all your other constituents against people without security clearance hacking all the most core, sensitive data and functions of the entire government?
