Climate change affects us all, but its impacts are far from equitable. Communities of color, Indigenous Peoples, and low-income groups face disproportionate harm from extreme weather events like heat waves, hurricanes, and flooding. This inequity is exacerbated by the concentration of toxic fossil fuel infrastructure—such as power plants and refineries—in many of these same communities. This talk will address the urgent need for an intersectional approach to greenhouse gas reduction, highlighting how citizens organizing systemic change can drive a more just and effective climate response. Drawing on the work of Mothers Out Front in Massachusetts and beyond, the presentation will demonstrate how campaigns that challenge and transform unjust systems can not only safeguard our future but also foster a healthier and fairer world today.
