THE VOTER: FEBRUARY 2012
February 2012 VOTER includes information on campaign finance, the Citizens United decision,an upcoming LWVSB Citizens United discussion (Feb. 11 our speaker will be Jonathan Anderson, Cal State San Bernardino professor (Chair of the Public Administration Department). a showing of the film "The Inconvenient Truth Behind Waiting for Superman" (Feb. 29, 2012), and a call for volunteers to help the League with a student referendum on California State University San Bernardino's campus (Feb. 29 and March 1).
THE VOTER: MARCH 2012
The March 2012 VOTER includes information on the findings of the SBLWV Charter Schools Committee (and information on how you can be part of setting the policy on which SBLWV will speak), the upcoming candidate forum in Big Bear, administering the CSUSB student referendum, the League position on the Affordable Care Act and the Disclose Act, and information on the "open primary" of June 5, 2012.
THE VOTER: MAY 2012
The May 2012 VOTER includes information on the June 2 LWVSB Annual Meeting, the June 5 Ballot (top two voting), the League of Women Voters of California's recommendations for the June 5 propositions, and the Citizens of Achievement Awards reception, where Dave Chadsey, Nancy Hughes, Bryce Garcia, Lana Smylie, Bernadette Pinchback, Vanessa Perez, Victor Suarez, Cathy Bechtel, Denise Benton, Sheldon Ewell, Mary Duke Ramsey, Michele Tacchia, and Knea Hawley were honored for their contributions to our community.
THE VOTER: AUGUST 2012
The August 2012 VOTER includes a report from the League of Women Voters of San Bernardino Annual Meeting (which includes our newly approved position on Charter Schools); along with a call for advocacy on the 47th anniversary of the creation of Medicare, and an article which chronicles some of the budget problems/budget cuts that the City of San Bernardino has weathered in the past along with some information on Chapter 9 bankruptcy proceedings. There are also opportunities for participation! We're looking for observers/reporters for School Board and City Council meetings, speakers to give voters information on the propositions (training is offered), and volunteers to help with the September 25th voter registration drive.
THE VOTER: SEPTEMBER 2012
The September 2012 VOTER includes information on voter registration drives, a report from the San Bernardino School Board meeting, a call for observers for local government meetings, links to view the meetings on the web if you cannot attend them in person, Banned Books Week information, news that online voter registration is now available in California (with instructions and the link), the League of Women Voters (US) Position on Privatization, and information on the LWVSB informational meeting on municipal bankruptcy that will take place on October 13 at the Feldheym Library.
THE VOTER: NOVEMBER 2012
The November 2012 VOTER includes information on the California League of Women Voters recommendations on the ballot propositions, misleading ads and misleading arguments that have been prevalent on this year's propositions, a report on the LWVSB Public Meeting on Municipal Bankruptcy, a report on current California voter registration, and an invitation to our Election Survivors Party at Coco's on Highland (near Waterman) on November 17 from noon-2pm. We hope to see you there!
THE VOTER: DECEMBER 2012
The December 2012 VOTER includes information on donating to Time for Change for the holidays, the City of San Bernardino's bankruptcy filings, the presentation on the Cadiz Water Project at the Special Meeting of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, eminent domain to help homeowners who owe more on their mortgages than the value of their homes, a report on LWVSB's Election Survivors' Meeting, and an invitation to participate in the next Save San Bernardino meeting.
