LWVUS hosted discussion on racism and racial gerrymandering, focusing on North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.
North Carolina speakers will include State Sen. Valerie Foushee, who chairs the NC Black Alliance (the association of Black elected officials) and Allison Riggs of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, who is now also on the LWVUS board. We are continuing to look at the linkages between systemic racism and gerrymandering, both as part of our study of county commission districting systems and more generally as an important dynamic in the struggle to undo system racism and strengthen our democracy.
