A big THANK YOU to those of you who have reached out to your legislators. The 2021 legislative session ends on June 9. After SB 1037 passes the Senate, it must still pass the House.

Sample CALL Message: My name is [YOUR NAME]. I am a constituent from [YOUR TOWN] and I respectively ask you to support a strong bottle bill (SB 1037) that increases the handling fee, increases the deposit, and expands the beverages covered by the deposit law. (Adding a reason for your support may be effective, but not necessary. However, unless you have a personal relationship with your Senator, it's the number of contacts that count.).
Connecticut can do better than our embarrassing 49% bottle redemption rate. The Bottle Bill would save municipalities and taxpayers money by diverting more recyclable materials from municipal waste, create jobs, make redemption more convenient, and reduce litter.
The opposition is strong and persistent, including proposing a 10-cent TAX instead of a deposit, on Nips. This eliminate the incentive to reduce litter or increase recycling.
See the maps showing the projected locations of additional Redemption Centers, retailers and Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) with the passage of SB 1037 in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, Stamford, and West Haven. In addition, some legislators are working on an amendment that would offer grants and/or low interest loans to encourage redemption centers in low-income communities.
