Celebrating Ella

Ella Grasso was first sworn in as Governor of Connecticut on January 8, 1975. With her inauguration, she became the first female Governor in Connecticut, first Italian-American Governor in Connecticut, and first female Governor in the United States elected in her own right.

As a nonpartisan, pro-democracy organization, the League is deeply alarmed by the ongoing ICE detentions, which too often fly in the face of due process and other fundamental rights. So earlier this month, League of Women Voters of Connecticut signed on to a letter with 91 other Connecticut organizations to express urgency and demand that Governor Lamont and Legislative Leadership take action to protect our immigrant communities during the upcoming special session.
