Getting the right to vote was a long and hard-fought battle. Suffragists had to contend with stubborn politicians, public apathy, ridicule, and legal persecution, while confronting racism and class conflict within the movement itself. Hear about Connecticut suffragists like labor activist Josephine Bennett, civil rights worker Mary Townshend Seymour, and movement organizer Katharine Houghton Hepburn. Participants will also learn a bit about the Connecticut women who fought tooth-and-nail against women getting the vote.
