Joining the League is a great way to play an active role in your community and in our democracy! Our members are passionate activists who work together to create positive and lasting changes in our communities. Everyone is welcome - membership in the League of Women Voters is open to anyone 16 years or older. 

When you join the League of Women Voters of Orange Durham and Chatham Counties, Inc. (LWVODC) you are also joining the state  and national league. Twenty percent of your dues payment will go to LWVODC, forty-seven percent will go to LWVNC, and thirty-three percent of your dues payment will go to LWVUS.

LWV Member PortalThis video will walk you through how to join or renew your membership at LWV. It also shows how to access and use the membership portal to update your profile information and view your past payments. 

Membership Dues:

  • Individual members: $75 per year is the recommended amount, or pay what you can ($20 minimum).
  • You can add a second member: $150 total for both recommended, or $40 for both minimum, but each of you will need a unique email address.
  • Life members (members for more than 50 years) are exempt from membership dues.

Paying Membership Online

  • The preferred payment option is a direct bank transfer (ACH transfer), which minimizes fees. You’ll need your financial institution's routing number and your account number.
  • You also have the option to pay by credit or debit card.
  • If you are not comfortable making payments online, see Pay Dues by Check below for instructions. 
  • You will receive an online confirmation and an email receipt for your payment. Your membership dues payment will show up as three transactions on your account - one each to LWVODC, LWVNC, and LWVUS. 
  • If you would prefer to keep things simple, you will have an option to select to automatically renew each year!
  • You will receive an email reminder to renew one year after your membership payment, with a link to renew on the LWV Member Portal. If you have signed up for auto-renew, you will get a reminder that your membership is automatically renewing.

Updating Contact Information and Viewing Past Payments

Login to the LWV Member Portal and enter the email address associated with your membership. You will be sent an email with a verification code to enter the code into the form. (You do not need a password.)

Paying Membership by Check

  1. Make your membership check payable to LWVUS and mail to: LWVODC, PO Box 3397, Chapel Hill NC 27515-3397. 
  2. Include the completed Membership Invoice with your check. It contains information that we will need for your membership. If you cannot, or do not want to print the invoice, please type or print the following information on a sheet of paper and include it with your check: Your first and last name, address, county (Orange / Durham / Chatham), phone number and email address. Your information is used only for League membership and is not shared.

Please consider making a donation to LWVODC to help us reach as many local voters as possible! We aim to reach thousands more people via targeted social media ads, postcard campaigns to unaffiliated voters, community forums and focused marketing strategies to promote LWVODC and Vote411.org. Your donation of any amount is much appreciated! If you prefer to make a donation by mail, please make a check payable to the desired fund (LWVODC or LWVODC Education Fund).  If you are making donations to both, we will require separate checks.  All mail donations may be sent to LWVODC P.O. Box 3397 Chapel Hill, NC  27715.
