Hartford, CT – (February 11, 2025) – The League of Women Voters of Connecticut (LWVCT) has worked for over a century to empower voters and strengthen democracy by ensuring fair and accessible elections. At a time when trust in our election system is paramount, we are deeply disappointed that Governor Lamont’s proposed budget does not provide sufficient funding to support the expansion of safe, secure, and equitable access to the ballot.

Ahead of the Appropriations Committee hearing on Friday, February 14, 2025, the League of Women Voters of Connecticut urges Governor Lamont and the legislature to prioritize adequate funding to protect and expand voting access and implement the Connecticut Voting Rights Act. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible voter can participate without unnecessary obstacles.

Connecticut voters have embraced measures like early voting and absentee voting for all, but without adequate investment, these reforms cannot be fully realized. Election officials need resources to educate voters, ensure secure ballot access, and modernize our election systems. The failure to include these critical investments threatens to create unnecessary barriers for voters, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and working families.

“Fair elections don’t happen by accident—they require commitment and investment,” said Patricia Rossi, President of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut.  “Connecticut must step up to ensure that every voter, regardless of zip code or circumstance, has the opportunity to make their voice heard.”

Ahead of the Appropriations Committee Hearing this Friday, February 14, the League of Women Voters of Connecticut urges Governor Lamont and the legislature to prioritize adequate funding to protect and expand voting access and implement the Connecticut Voting Rights Act. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible voter can participate without unnecessary obstacles.
