Join us on a deep-dive into the harsh, yet ever-important legacy of the Selma Jubilee, engaging through the lens of history and lived experience the crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge. In the legacy of Congressman John Lewis, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, Claudette Colvin, Attorney Fred Gray and the many movement leaders both whose names are known throughout history and for the ones who were unsung- we hold this space to celebrate their memory and their legacy.
The LWVUS Teach-In on Selma will anchor history as told through the stories of Selma natives, activists, and community-builders among the small Alabama enclave. In conversation with LWVUS CEO Celina Stewart, Catrena Norris Carter, CEO of Salute Selma, Rhonda Briggins, and U.W. Clemon (to be confirmed) will share their perspectives and collective journey. We will explore the intersection of civil rights and coalition-building to grasp a better understanding of the most critical work and the road ahead.
