The Constitution and Democracy Today

Please join Senator Richard Blumenthal, State Senator and Professor of Constitutional Law Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, Dan Barrett of the ACLU of CT, Paul Skaff of the CT Democracy Center, and moderator Bobbi Brown of the NAACP Greater Bridgeport Branch for a conversation about the Constitution and democracy today, hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Greater Bridgeport Area.

Since its founding, our Constitution has balanced power among the coequal branches of government and promoted the public interest.

  • Are we at a moment of profound constitutional crisis, as many legal advocates have suggested?
  • What critical conversations should we be having right now about our most fundamental constitutional principles?
  • How will the current interpretation of those principles impact how our government functions well into the future?
  • What aspects of the founders' vision of government have been strained over time, especially in recent years, and how can we respond to protect our constitutional republic and to help ensure a meaningful democracy?

We’ll explore what that means for democracy today as we face new challenges together.
