Community Read: The U.S. Constitution

Wednesday, December 3, 2025
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
The Litchfield History Museum (7 South Street, Litchfield, CT 06759)

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the League of Women Voters of Litchfield County and the Litchfield Historical Society are excited to invite the community to read and reflect on the U.S. Constitution.

On Wednesday, December 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Litchfield History Museum, join moderators Ben Solnit and Richard Quay for a facilitated conversation to provide historical context, clarify key principles, and offer participants an opportunity to ask questions and engage in respectful dialogue about our nation's founding document.

The conversation will be moderated by two local lawyers, Richard Quay and Ben Sonit. Richard Quay, a past Litchfield Historical Society Board Member, started his career as a litigator in state and federal courts before his professional career became focused on the international oil and gas industry. Richard currently serves on the boards of the White Memorial Foundation and the Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust. We are thankful to have Richard, with a passion for United States History, the law, and civil discourse, who has generously agreed to share the role of presenter and moderator for this program on the United States Constitution. Ben A. Solnit, a League member, was a commercial litigator for 23 years and continues practicing law as a volunteer consumer attorney with Connecticut Legal Services. He is the past President of New Haven Legal Assistance Association and of the ACLU of Connecticut and is President of the Morris Land Trust. We are thrilled to have Ben A. Solnit, recipient of the ACLU Champion of Liberty Award, as a shared presenter and moderator of this discussion on the United States Constitution.

Copies of a US Constitution booklet can be picked up at the Litchfield History Museum starting Nov 10. To read the US Constitution online, visit https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/constitution-transcript, or to listen to an audio version, visit https://librivox.org/united-states-constitution-and-amendments-by-united-states-government/.

The conversations will be held at the Litchfield History Museum, 7 South St., Litchfield, CT. The event is free, and donations are appreciated.
