This month's Fair Districts NC webinar will shine a light on this history and its lessons for our own times. We will learn the forgotten history of the local struggle in North Carolina towns and counties to remove discriminatory electoral systems. Between 1987 and 2004, local citizens and the NAACP brought almost 70 cases challenging structural barriers that blocked Black candidates from winning seats on town councils and county commissions.We will review the record of VRA court battles brought at the local level assembled by Anita Earls (now Justice Earls) in a landmark 2008 report on North Carolina's VRA cases.  Register here.
