Justice Center discussed the current state of public education policy in North Carolina, the Leandro court case, the recent WestEd report, and the opportunity it presents for parents, educators, advocates and policymakers.

Find out how YOU can take action to ensure state lawmakers meet their constitutional obligation and implement meaningful education reform in the 2020 legislative session.

The Leandro Case, decided by the NC Supreme Court in 1997 sought equal per-pupil public education funding.  The Court held that the state constitution's right to education “is a right to a sound basic education.” The 2019 WestEd report is a step toward implementation of the Leandro Decision.  The report by an independent consultant for the judge, who now presides over the case, makes recommendations for how NC can meet the mandates of the Leandro case.

March 12, 2020: State Rep. Graid Meyer disucsses the upcoming LWVODC Facebook form and provides information about the Leandro ruling. Rep. Meyer gave this interview on the Aaron Keck show.
