Join LWVODC in welcoming Suzanne Fisher, a member of the Asheville Buncombe League and the leader of the LWVNC Election of the President by the Popular Vote action team. Suzanne will give a presentation on the problems with the electoral college, the history of the League’s efforts to make the election of the president more democratic, and how the adoption of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact can serve as an interim measure towards the long term goal of the abolition of the electoral college.
In an effort to promote a more representative democracy, in 2024 the League of Women Voters began the One Person One Vote campaign. In addition to redistricting reform, a key ingredient of this campaign is to work towards the abolition of the electoral college by 2028. With that in mind, also in 2024, LWVNC established the Election of the President by the Popular Vote Action Team and is encouraging local leagues to form action teams to move these efforts forward statewide.
On Zoom. Event begins at 6:45pm for conversation. Event is from 7:00 - 8:00pm. Registration required by March 24 at 5pm.
