Members of League of Women Voters Orange, Durham, Chatham Counties (LWVODC), Chapel Hill/Durham chapters, National Organization for Women (NOW), Interfaith Voices for Reproductive Freedom (IVRF), and community guests are meeting regularly to examine North Carolina’s network of Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) - anti-abortion fake clinics - which receive $19 million in State Funding, and to strategize responses.

This free symposium will focus on what CPCs are, the growing healthcare crisis as legitimate clinics and Medicaid are defunded, and how CPCs function as maternal vouchers for healthcare similar to private school vouchers.

Registration is required (there is no registration fee). The venue’s location will be emailed after registration. The last day to register is Sunday, Feb. 1.

Confirmed speakers include Amy Bryant, MD, MSCR, Division Director, Complex Family Planning, Associate Professor, Complex Family Planning, and Adjunct Associate Professor, Maternal and Child Health of UNC-Chapel Hill's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Other speakers include Tara Romano, Executive Director of Pro-Choice NC and Emma Horst-Martz of Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic. There will also be an afternoon panel discussion.

We’ll take direct action by filling out postcards to state officials, calling for an audit of State funds, and signing an online petition. Registration check-in will begin at ~ 8:15 am, the Symposium at 9 am, ending at 2 pm. Coffee and pastries will be available 8:15 am - 9 am. Lunch will be provided. There will be opportunities to meet and network with partner organizations, such as LWV; NOW, IVRF, and others. (Complete list available late January / early February.) Preregistration is required.
