At the LWVUS 2024 Convention, delegates voted to proceed with a study on the federal judiciary. The study will be completed on a fast-track timeline in time for a position to be announced at the LWVUS 2025 Council in June 2025.

Federal Judiciary Study Scope:

To develop a LWV position on the Federal Judiciary as an essential component of US democracy. Purpose of the Study includes, but is not limited to: addressing concerns and clarifying judicial accountability, transparency, independence and ethics. The scope addresses the Supreme Court as well as the other Article Ill federal courts.

Local Leagues have already hosted their consensus meetings for LWVUS’s study on the federal judiciary – or are planning to do so in the next couple of weeks.

If you are not part of a local League – or if you were unable to join your local League’s meeting due to a scheduling conflict – you can join LWVNC’s meeting on Zoom on Monday, April 7 at 10 a.m. Advanced registration is required (register below).

To prepare for the Federal Judiciary Study meeting, read the LWVUS information about the 2024-2025 Federal Judiciary Study Process, Committee, and Resources.

Note: The LWVUS Federal Judiciary Study Committee held a town hall on February 4, with speakers including Alicia Bannon from the Brennan Center for Justice, Thomas Berry from The CATO Institute, and Erinn Martin from NGV LLC. Watch the YouTube recording
