UNC-TV, together with the League of Women Voters of Wake County and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, present a Special Preview Screening & Panel Discussion of PBS's American Experience The Vote.
This is a free, virtual event, but registration is required. A reminder email will be sent to you prior to the start of the event with the access link for the virtual event. To reserve your virtual seat, please register via Eventbrite or contact UNC-TV Events Coordinator Karen Nowak at knowak [at] unctv.org.
The event begins with a screening of curated clips from PBS's critically acclaimed, documentary series American Experience The Vote (the film premieres over two nights, Monday, July 6, and Tuesday, July 7, at 9 PM , on UNC-TV). One hundred years after the passage of the 19th Amendment, American Experience’s The Vote tells the dramatic story of the hard-fought campaign waged by American women for the right to vote—a transformative cultural and political movement that resulted in the largest expansion of voting rights in U.S. history. The Vote brings to life the unsung leaders of the movement and the deep controversies over gender roles and race that divided Americans then and continue dominating political discourse today.
Then join UNC-TV for a special, virtual panel discussion featuring prominent local educators, community leaders and business professionals from around North Carolina. Panelists will answer your questions and discuss the history of women's suffrage and current events. Wake President Dianna Wynn is one of the panelists.
Engagement with the panelists is encouraged and you will be able to ask questions via the chat feature.
