Narragansett, RI – October 13, 2025 – The League of Women Voters South County (LWVSC) announces its 3rd Quarterly Meeting in the “Find Your Civic Voice” series. The free and open to the public meeting will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, 25 Pier Marketplace, Narragansett, RI. Guest speaker Dr. Connie Sobon Sensor, Chief LWV Observer to the United Nations (UN) will address how she elevated the International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) to a prominent presence and changed how nurses are perceived to include greater emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, and capacity for involvement in health policy development and decision-making to advance global health.
Dr. Sobon Sensor’s experience as an observer to the UN can inform us on the value of showing up regularly to observe governing bodies. Besides being in the room to speak up with our own professional knowledge when important decisions are at stake, we can build relationships that expand on the common good and promote a future that includes everyone, not just special interests.
She brings us special insight from the recent UN meeting, that you won’t want to miss.
This "Find Your Civic Voice" series is an initiative by LWVSC that aims to foster community discussion, learning, and action on topics that shape our democracy.
"Since 1945, representatives of the League of Women Voters have served as official Observers to the United Nations and now enjoy Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This special status allows the League to make formal oral or written statements to the UN and be consulted by the UN in areas in which the League has expertise." commented LWVSC President Christine Martone.
