League of Women Voters South County Welcomes Kathy Cloutier of Dorcas International RI and U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner for “Find Your Civic Voice” Series Inside Immigration in Rhode Island
The League of Women Voters South County (LWVSC) announces the second offering in its Quarterly Meeting series “Find Your Civic Voice.” The meeting will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM at the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, 25 Pier Marketplace, Narragansett, RI. Guest speaker Kathy Cloutier, Executive Director of Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island will be joined in conversation by our U.S. Representative for the 2nd District Seth Magaziner.
Dorcas is a non-profit organization that cultivates an inclusive community for immigrants and those seeking refuge by providing integrated services, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and nurturing strong partnerships. Kathy is a founding member of Rhode Island’s Immigrant Coalition, and Treasurer of the International Charter School’s Board of Trustees, the Greater
Providence Adult Education Consortium, and Rhode Island’s Refugee Support Network. She comes uniquely qualified to discuss “How Immigration and Civic Engagement Intersect.”
Representative Magaziner will provide a general update on what is happening in Congress with special attention to civic engagement and immigration today. Questions from the audience will be entertained.
Find Your Civic Voiceseries is an initiative by LWVSC aims to foster community discussion, learning, and action on topics that shape our democracy. "We are creating a space where interested community members come together, engage with civic leaders, and explore what it means to be an active participant in our democracy", said LWVSC President Christine Martone. "One thing we know, democracy is not a spectator sport. We all need to get in the game at some level.”
