The League of Women Voters South County, in collaboration with The United Theatre, invites the community to a special Women’s Equality Day celebration featuring a screening and discussion of the documentary Still Working 9 to 5. This timely event will take place at The United Theatre, 5 Canal Street, Westerly, RI on Sunday, August 24, 2925 at 4:00 PM.

More than a movie. It’s a movement.
Still Working 9 to 5 explores the continuing fight for gender equality more than four decades after the release of the iconic 1980 workplace comedy 9 to 5. With candid interviews, historical footage, and cultural commentary, the documentary reveals how much has changed—and how much has not—for working women in America.

This event is more than a film screening; it’s an opportunity for reflection, discussion, and action. Following the film, stay for a thoughtful conversation about gender equity, labor justice, and the ongoing struggle for equality in workplaces and beyond.
Women’s Equality Day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women the right to vote. It honors the generations of women—often denied basic rights and equal pay—who fought for political representation, despite facing systemic discrimination and violence. This day reminds us that the struggle for equality did not end with the vote—and continues today.

Tickets are $20 and seating is limited.
All proceeds benefit the League of Women Voters South County, helping fund vital nonpartisan voter education and outreach programs in the region.
