Dr. Caitlin Jewitt, associate professor and associate chair in Virginia Tech’s Department of Political Science, chose as her title “Untangling the 2024 Presidential Nomination.” The event on Tuesday, Feb. 20th from 3–4:30 p.m. in Warm Hearth’s Tall Oaks Hall, 2387 Warm Hearth Dr, Blacksburg, VA 24060, is jointly sponsored by The League and LLI. It is open to all League members. You do not need to be registered with LLI to attend.
The presidential nomination process is complicated, characterized by a mix of primaries and caucuses happening between February and June. The lengthy process also looks quite different across parties. This talk will discuss how the presidential nomination system works focusing on some of the more controversial, complicated aspects, and will also cover the state of the 2024 nomination.
Dr. Jewitt’s research focuses on presidential primaries and caucuses, campaigns and elections, public opinion and political parties. In 2019, she published The Primary Rules: Parties, Voters, and Presidential Nominations with The University of Michigan Press.
Come join us to hear from Dr. Jewitt. This will be one of our first chances to gather with other League friends in 2024, a critical year for our nation’s democracy.
