Three Ways to Vote in 2022

1.  Vote early in person. Begins Sept 23

     Registrar’s Office: Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St, Christiansburg

     September 23 – November 5

       8:30 am–4:30 pm  M–F

        Saturdays Oct 29 and Nov 5, 9 am –5 pm

2.  Vote by mail. Apply for a mail ballot at elections.virginia.gov or at the Registrar’s Office.

     Deadline for applying: Friday, Oct. 28, 5 pm.

     Mail your ballot in the postage-paid envelope postmarked by Nov 8, received by Nov 14.

     Take your ballot to the Registrar’s Office by   7 pm, Nov 8, during office hours. A Drop Box is available in the Government Center.

     Take your ballot to your polling place on Election Day.

     A witness must sign your absentee ballot.

     Follow the instructions carefully.

First-time voters who mailed in their voter registrations can vote by mail only if they meet certain conditions. See details at elections.virginia.gov.

3.  Vote in person on Election Day, Nov 8.

     6 am–7 pm

     Find your precinct at elections.virginia.gov or on your voter registration card.

Curbside voting is available during early voting and on Election Day for people with disabilities or health risks.

Voter ID

You will need to present an acceptable form of ID at the polls. These IDs are acceptable:

  • Virginia driver's license
  • Virginia DMV-issued ID card
  • valid employee ID card, containing a photograph, issued by voter’s employer in ordinary course of business
  • U.S. Military ID
  • valid student ID containing a photo issued by an higher education institution in the U.S.
  • valid student ID issued by a Virginia higher education institution
  • valid student ID issued by a Virginia high school
  • valid U.S. Passport
  • voter ID card issued by the Department of Elections
  • Government-issued ID card from a federal, Virginia, or local political subdivision

Same day registration

New legislation allows voter registration on Election Day. If you have forgotten to register by the October 17 deadline, go to your polling place on Election Day. You will be given a provisional ballot. The Electoral Board will decide whether to count the ballot. To be sure that your vote counts, register by October 17.
