Mission:
To educate LWV Orange Coast members about the League of Women Voters' activities at the United Nations and to coordinate local initiatives that advance the international relations public policy positions in the League's Impact on Issues.
How We Accomplish Our Mission:
- Participate in and report on the annual conferences of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and other UN events that League members may attend.
- Participate in and report on research by the Human Rights Team of LWV-UN Delegates
- Explore initiatives that can be undertaken at the local level in support of human rights and women in politics
How You Can Get Involved:
- Become informed about the LWV-UN long-standing relationship.
- Join the LWVUS UN Google group and follow UN-related events on webtv.un.org.
- Help brain-storm ideas about how to 'think globally, act locally,' drawing on issues raised at the CSW conferences and other UN events.
- Disseminate information about the UN Human Rights treaties to local schools.
- Connect with other local Leagues and groups such as the United Nations Association to explore possible joint activities.
- Learn about the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and how it is being implemented in Orange County.
