HB 5448 An Act Concerning Security of Certain Election Workers and Elections-Related Locations is crucial for the safety of our election workers and our democracy. We need the Connecticut General Assembly to bring the bill to the floor and vote YES.

Summary

Without election workers, there would be no elections. Without the legions of civic minded people willing to spend long hours at the polling locations, elections could not happen successfully in Connecticut. It has become apparent over the past few years that election workers need protection.

This bill:
  1. Protects identities and addresses of certain election workers preventing incidents of harassment, threats or doxxing.
  2. Prohibits the possession of firearms near polling locations, vote counting sites or other key infrastructure.
  3. Establishes serious legal consequences for those who engage in harassment, doxxing or threatening behavior.

MORE INFORMATION

This bill will prevent election workers' personal information from being accessed and disseminated by bad actors for potential harassment, threats of violence, and/or doxxing . As more and more polling locations are not located in school buildings, especially with the introduction of early voting, there needs to be specific legislation prohibiting guns from polling locations, vote counting sites and other election related locations. This bill creates serious legal consequences for those who might engage in harassment or threatening behavior or the doxxing of election workers.

Subject: HB 5448 An Act Concerning Security of Certain Election Workers and Elections-Related Locations
Dear [Senator/Representative] [name]:
I am writing to you in support of HB 5448 An Act Concerning Security of Certain Election Workers and Elections-Related Locations.  In order for workers to participate in our democratic process, and for voters to feel safe while voting, we must take steps to protect them. This bill takes those steps and is needed immediately.
Even the perception of danger can keep voters away from the polls. More and more cities and towns are having difficulties recruiting and keeping poll workers, we need to show those workers that the state of Connecticut is willing to stand up for their safety. Our democracy needs the full participation of its citizens, so I urge you to support and advocate for this important bill.
Thank you for your consideration.
