Urge Governor Lamont to protect clean elections in Connecticut
For 20 years, Connecticut’s Citizens’ Election Program has been a national model — empowering small donors, reducing corruption, and helping elect lawmakers who answer to the people, not big money.
But right now, that program is under attack.
On May 22, the legislature rushed the passage of SB 1405, a bill that would give lawmakers new power over who leads the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) — the independent agency responsible for enforcing our clean elections law.
This is a blatant overreach. Allowing politicians to control the reappointment of the SEEC Executive Director undermines the Commission’s independence and opens the door to political interference in campaign enforcement.
We can still stop this. The bill goes to Lamont's desk for him to sign as early as Monday, June 2.
He needs to hear from enough of us.
Action: Email or call Governor Lamont today and urge him to protect the independence of the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) from political interference by vetoing SB 1405 as it is written now.
For 20 years, Connecticut voters have led the way in showing what fair elections can look like. Let’s not allow one rushed decision to undo all that progress.
Thanks for standing up for democracy.
