As voters across Connecticut send in their absentee ballots or make their plans to head to the polls, confusion about the election process is at an all-time high. The League has a 100-year history of getting voters the information they need to vote with confidence and this year is no different. Join us on October 20th, for a discussion about this year’s unique election: why you should vote, how you can vote and what to expect, particularly at the polls. In 1971 the voting ages was lowered to 18. 50% of 18-24 years olds voted that next year. Fast forward to 2016…only 39% of 18-24 year olds voted while 70% of people over 60 years old voted. Why aren’t young people voting? Your voice matters – so make it count. It’s not just about who you want for president, it’s also about the issues you care about at the state and local level.

The Connecticut Women’s Suffrage Association began in 1869 and journeyed along the path that took over 50 years before Connecticut women gained the right to vote. It took the official ratification by Tennessee to motivate the Connecticut legislature to ratify the 19th Amendment in September 1920. Read more...
