The prosperous Black community of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was known as the "Negro Wall Street of America." Resentful of the success achieved by descendants of formerly enslaved Black people, along with allegations that a Black man had assaulted a white woman, Greenwood was violently eradicated physically and historically.
