… the work of understanding, unlike the urge to know, requires an endless commitment to the activity of thinking; it requires one to always be ready to begin again. – Samantha Rose Hill, Hannah Arendt

A writer’s life and work are not a gift to mankind; they are its necessity. – Toni Morrison, Peril

Join us virtually as we continue our ongoing conversation to better understand and address the political and racial controversies that continue to polarize our communities. We will do that by analyzing three works by noted scholars. First, we will read or watch them on our own time, then Tom Kilbourn, ordained Episcopal priest and former Barlow teacher, will lead us in a virtual discussion to compare and contrast them. Tom will guide us in exploring how the works relate in helping us to better comprehend serious, current civic and political upheaval with the ultimate goal of re-examining our own understanding. This will be a follow-up to the March 9th virtual program with Dr. Peter Coleman, one of the three scholars whose work will be examined in this  discussion, joins us to delve deeper into the subject by bringing his research and knowledge on what it takes to overcome conflict and create a more sustainable peace.

The three works to read or watch prior to March 22nd program:
