Your quick action is needed. A bill is being considered that threatens the way the public is notified about pending legislative action.

That bill is HB 321. It limits public notice of proposed changes to the state’s Constitution.

Our Delaware Constitution provides the foundation to our governance and, accordingly, any changes being considered need to be given wide distribution. This bill, however, would eliminate publishing such proposals in newspapers in each county in favor of merely posting them on the General Assembly and Department of Elections webpages.

The sponsors see the bill as a cost-savings measure, to avoid having to pay for newspaper notices. The League sees this as a dangerous way to limit public awareness of governmental action. It would achieve minor state savings at the high cost of eroding transparency and public engagement.

The bill has already passed the House, so it is imperative that you let your state Senator know ASAP that you oppose HB 321.
