VOTE411 Online Voter Guide
VOTE411.org is an online voters guide website hosted by the League of Women Voters USA.
The Delaware leagues have participated in this program starting in 2012, compiling information on all candidates for elected positions statewide. Thousands of Delawareans use VOTE411 to help them prepare for the primary and general elections. Since 2019, we have also provided VOTE411 coverage for school board elections in Delaware, which are held statewide on the second Tuesday each May.
Volunteers are needed each election cycle to help draft questions for the candidates, encourage the candidates to respond to the questionnaire, and publicize the VOTE411.org guide to the voting public. Please contact Jill Itzkowtiz or the League office if you'd like to be a part of the VOTE411 team.
LWV of Kent County, DE
Although on a bit of a hiatus at present, the Kent County League in Delaware (LWVKC) has historically provided voter registration/information tables at such disparate locations as the annual Wyoming Peach Festival, the inaugural YES! Youth Environmental Summit in Dover, and Dover State University (in conjuction with a student club there).
In addition, LWVKC is responsible for candidate forums at the Kent county level, and in past years has handled LWV forums for state-level candidates as well. The Delaware LWV forums have ben notable for giving third-party candidates an equal chance to participate.
Kent County Government
Delaware's Kent County is governed by the Levy Court, composed of seven elected commissioners. The Levy Court has both legislative (policy making) and executive powers and are responsible for county finances, facilities, personnel and rural zoning. They approve an annual budget, determine tax levies, issue bonds for county capital improvement, buy and sell land and buildings, manage real and personal property, manage facilities for sewage, develop recreational and employment programs, and provide necessary county buildings.
The county government (Levy Court) website can be found here: https://www.kentcountyde.gov
Elected officials at the county level in Kent County, Delaware include the Levy Court Commissioners, Clerk of the Peace, Register of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, and the Kent County Sheriff. All serve four-year staggered terms, and appear on the combined state general election ballots during Delaware's biennial (even-numbered) election years when the seats come open. The races are partisan, so may also feature in the primary election if two candidates run from the same major party in the same year.
