Sussex LWV was honored to be asked to participate in the July 17 "Good Trouble Lives On" gathering hosted by the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ). With temperatures in the high 90s, the event moved from Johnnie Walker Beach to the sanctuary at Epworth United Methodist Church, where the (air-conditioned!) hall was packed.

Rev. Marjorie Belmont and Joseph Lawson, Chair and Executive Director, respectively, of SDARJ, welcomed the attendees and opened the event. Gwendolyn Miller, Vice Chair of SDARJ, then brought her beautiful soprano to lead the Good Trouble Choir in the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” She was followed by a stream of inspirational speakers, including the Rev. Dania Griffin, Pastor, Frankford AME Church; Cynthia Anderson-Clay, Lewes African American Heritage Commission; Cheryl Siskin, Co-Leader, Indivisible Southern Delaware; Calvin Jackson, Omega Psi Phi; Patty Maloney, Chair, Speak Out Against Hate (SOAH); Barb Hedges-Goettl, President, Sussex LWV; Rebecca Lowe, Chair, Women's March Sussex; Cliffvon Howell, Chairman, Lewes Alumni Interest Group of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and Rev. Dr. Vicki Gordy-Stith, Lead Pastor, Epworth United Methodist Church. The gathering closed with the crowd joining with the choir in “We Shall Overcome.”
