Carmin C. Reiss – Candidate for Reelection as Moderator 2021

         Email: reiss [at] gmail.com

Why are you running for office and what can you bring to the office that you are seeking?

If elected to serve as Concord’s Moderator for another term, I will bring a commitment to do everything within my power to preserve Concord’s history, values, and character in its town meeting procedures, while adapting those procedures as we must to protect the health and safety of our citizens, as well as the staff who support us.  I will welcome the observations, ideas, and constructive criticisms of Concord voters on how best to strike this balance.

In appointing members of our Finance Committee, I will continue to aim for a balance of profiles, backgrounds, and viewpoints that reflects Concord as a whole, and vests the Finance Committee with the experience and skill-sets it needs to advise Town Meeting on the financial issues, both immediate and longer term, that come before it.

What in your opinion are the biggest challenges/issues facing the committee that you hope to serve?

The greatest challenge that Concord’s Moderator will face next year is a continuation of the challenge of this past year: how do we safely conduct our town meeting in the midst of a pandemic, while simultaneously preserving its fundamental character as a direct deliberative democracy?  I expect to meet this challenge by building on lessons learned in our Annual Town Meeting of last September, and calling again upon the support of town officials, town staff, citizen volunteers, and Concord citizens at large.
