Are you interested in learning more about the initiatives on Montana’s November 3 ballot? Join the League of Women Voters of the Helena Area on September 30 at 6:00 p.m. at Lewis & Clark Library for an educational public forum examining the three ballot measures.

The program will be moderated by retired Montana Supreme Court Justice Patricia Cotter. Speakers will present information about each initiative, followed by an audience Q&A session. Helena Civic TV (HCTV) will record the session and it will run on their cable station and be available to stream.

• Lauren Caldwell, founder of Fireweed Campaigns, will speak on Constitutional Initiative 132 (CI-132), a citizen-led proposal to amend the Montana Constitution to require that all judicial elections remain nonpartisan. CI-132 would place that requirement in the state constitution, meaning partisan labels could not be added to judicial ballots without a future vote of the electorate.

• SK Rossi, founder of Central House Strategies, will discuss Constitutional Initiative 133 (CI-133), a measure that would add the powers of citizen initiative and referendum directly to the Montana Declaration of Rights. The proposal establishes explicit constitutional protections for an impartial, transparent, and timely process for filing initiatives, gathering signatures, and verifying petitions.

• Jeff Mangan, founder of the Transparent Election Initiative (TEI), will speak on Initiative 194 (I-194), also known as “The Montana Plan” or the “dark money” initiative. The measure would enact a new Montana law prohibiting “artificial persons”—including corporations, nonprofits, trusts, partnerships, and trade associations—from spending money on political campaigns, ballot measures, or political parties.
