Letters to Voters About Unvalidated ID Numbers
If you received a letter from your county Board of Elections regarding Assistance Requested to Update Your Voter Registration Information, you can still vote a regular ballot, but you may be asked to update your voter record. Per the NC State Board of Elections:
Importantly, this new effort in no way will affect any voter’s registration status. During elections, affected voters will be asked if they want to update their information at their voting site. They will still vote regular ballots even if they do not update their information, unless there is another reason they must vote a provisional ballot.

Registration Repairs Needed for 70,000 NC Voters Ahead of 2026 Election
State Board of Election data says that there are still about 70,000 potential voters who need to repair their registrations. That includes approximately:
- 700 in Orange County
- 3600 in Durham County
- 650 in Chatham County
While some of these voters may have moved, many of them are eligible to vote in the 2026 statewide primary and election. Please check your registration at Vote411.org and encourage others to do so. Anyone whose name is on the registration repair list should follow the instructions How do I Repair My Registration? on this page to provide their NC driver’s license/DMV ID number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. A repaired registration will ensure they can vote a regular ballot rather than a provisional ballot.
