We believe that sensible, responsible civil discourse is based on substance rather than partisanship, and with leaders like you, we can make democracy work. The League offers a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that is welcoming to all who are drawn to our mission and wish to make a positive impact. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Your Involvement is up to you
Members serve in ways that suit their own needs, interests, and time schedules. Activities vary widely: registering voters, organizing community candidate forums, researching positions for group study, getting out the vote – all of these things wouldn’t happen without the dedication and support of League members. We are limiting face-to-face activities during the current pandemic, but members still promote voter registration and voter education and contact their lawmakers to request support for bills that are aligned with the League's positions. Our newsletter helps keep everyone aware of current activities. After you join, the membership director will send you more detailed information about the League and all that we do. Feel free to participate in anything we are doing that interests you.
What happens with your dues
Membership is managed by local Leagues, who forward the majority of your membership dues to the state and national organizations. In turn, these organizations provide staff and resources to assist the local Leagues and also lobby the legislature or Congress for state and national issues that are too big for local Leagues to influence alone. Becoming a member of your local League makes you a contributing member of LWVSC (state League) and LWVUS (national League). Annual membership dues cover our state and national League obligations and our own local expenses. Our membership year runs from January 1 to December 31. We try to keep dues low so that everyone can participate. Individual membership dues are $60; household membership dues are $100; membership is free for students.
You can pay dues via the convenient link on this web site or mail a check to League of Women Voters of the Columbia Area, P.O. Box 12541, Columbia, SC 29211-2541.
