Why are you running for office and what can you bring to the office that you are seeking?

I am a candidate for the Concord Housing Authority because I want to contribute my knowledge and experience to our community, and I believe that together we can help address some of the affordable housing issues facing our town and region. As a non-profit board member and treasurer for almost two decades, I offered my skills and energy to several organizations in Concord prior to retirement. Post-retirement, I have added political and civic engagement activities, recently serving on the board of the LWV of Concord & Carlisle. My professional career involved real estate-related auditing and financial management and small business development work with immigrants in gateway cities. As a tenant, a homeowner and a landlord, I have experienced many housing issues first-hand myself. I plan to bring my experience and interest, along with those of other stakeholders, to the CHA Board’s decision-making process.

What in your opinion are the biggest challenges/issues facing the CHA now?

The Authority has performed well, providing safe and adequate housing for our Concord neighbors, as indicated by periodic surveys and external reviews. However, there are many more people whose needs have not yet been met. The CHA should plan on expanding the number of families served and be proactive in seeking expanded housing opportunities. The new house on Commonwealth Avenue (Gerow land) is welcome and advocating for re-use of the Peabody School need not wait until the new CMS is finished. This year will be a time of transition, with a new Executive Director and three new Board Members, thus presenting a unique opportunity to “build back better”.
