Internship Opportunities

The League of Women Voters of Orange Durham and Chatham Counties offers interested adults over 18 years old an opportunity to serve as unpaid interns on various projects. If requested, League interns can earn hours for service learning/civic engagement. If you are a student, you will receive appropriate documentation of hours and tasks accomplished as required by your academic program.

Why Apply?

You have much to gain by applying for an internship:

  • Gain valuable experience with a nationally respected non-profit organization
  • Receive strong letters of recommendation upon completion
  • Build your resume to improve employment opportunities
  • Learn about non-profit management and administration
  • Learn about the electoral process and the role of the local, state, and national League of Women Voters

Responsibilities and Assignments

Each internship is planned based on individual circumstances, time available, and skills, and involves a collaboration that engages the intern and the LWVODC member-mentors. As an intern with the League during my senior year at UNC, I was able to garner and cultivate skills to utilize in both my academic and professional careers. Conducting voter education talks and launching a digital media campaign allowed me to improve upon my public speaking skills, as well as contribute positively to local civic engagement. One of my favorite parts of this experience was that everyone in the League was so welcoming and we were able to reach our goals through many collaborative efforts!

Interning at the League of Women Voters was a fantastic opportunity to pursue my interests in elections and voting, and to connect with my local community. It was incredibly fulfilling to meet and speak with people about issues that are important to me, and these presentations furthered my confidence in my public speaking abilities. I also worked on social media and got to make Instagram graphics and posts that allowed me to express my creativity and interact with others online. We had a great team of interns, and it was fun to collaborate with others under amazing leadership. Overall, I'm so thankful for my time at LWV, and this position was a great learning experience that taught me applicable skills that I've gone on to use in all areas of my life.
