On April 17, 2025, the League of Women Voters of the United States issued this statement:
It has now been 87 days since the start of the Trump administration. From the flagrant disregard for congressional authority and governmental checks and balances to defying Supreme Court orders to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back home, one thing is abundantly clear: our country is in a constitutional crisis.

The LWVUS declaration was then highlighted in this April 18 PBS News report clip with New York Times columnist David Brooks and Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart joining host William Brangham: www.pbs.org/newshour/show/brooks-and-capehart-on-trumps-faceoff-with-the-courts.
Jonathan Capehart:
I am glad you read that, because I was shaking, I was nodding in agreement with the League of Women Voters.
How can you say that the president hasn't defied court orders? You have got Judge Boasberg, who is threatening to — says yesterday that there's probable cause to charge the government or lawyers arguing on behalf of the government with criminal contempt.

So, I know there are these formal definitions of what a constitutional crisis is, but from where I sit in my "Schoolhouse Rock!" knowledge of how our government is supposed to work…
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. We empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation, at the local, state, and national levels. We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate.
